Artist's Biographical Information
Susan Cornelis, M.S.W., is a watercolor artist and mixed-media workshop teacher who most recently has been documenting the personal stories of women experiencing homelessness, as well as challenging events or circumstances surrounding fire recovery, climate change, and nursing homes.
Combining ink and watercolor drawings with words, Susan’s illustrations are a kind of visual journalism, which is often done quickly in the moment. Less technique-based, Susan’s art gives free expression to storytelling that encompasses “the forces of nature, timeless struggles, and inner wisdom.”
Widely exhibited in solo and group shows at art venues throughout Northern California, Susan also accepts private and corporate commissions; her clients include the Sonoma County Harvest Fair, Commonwealth Financial Network, Lynmar Estate Winery, RR Square Association (for which she created a Charlie Brown statue), and Forestville Chamber of Commerce.
Susan lives with her family in California’s wine country, where she experiences the “thrill of showing up to paint with the knowledge that the spirit communicates directly using the language of colorful imagery.”
