Fall 2024 Exhibition: “Spirit of Place—Landscape”
The Arts & Faith Ministry is pleased to welcome back for our annual fall exhibition the local five-member collaborative group known as Studio 10 Artists. This year, the group, comprising painters Elisabeth Hudgins, Kathleen Jamieson, Linda Maldonado, Elise Ritter, and Deborah Taylor, addresses the theme “Spirit of Place—Landscape,” which can be seen in the Parish Hall from September 20, 2024, through October 24, 2024.
In addition to using the theme as an inspirational prompt, each of the painters has selected some feature of Nature that most signifies what “place” means personally. The visual explorations encompass the artists’ memories and feelings about a visit to a centuries-old European city (Vienna, Austria, in the case of Elise), the specialness of light on Cape Code (Kat Jamieson), water’s eternal flow from springs and rivers (Beth Hudgins), the wildness and unexpected beauty of deserts (Linda Maldonado), and the contemplation of the symbolism of trees and their connectedness to other living things (Deborah Taylor).
Exhibition-goers are encouraged to consider their own “memories, sacred spaces, and imagined spheres” and especially to think about when considering “place” and “landscape” (or “seascape”) in the Bible. A list of questions in the Exhibition Notebook in the Parish Hall is provided to facilitate this activity and to foster conversation about the notion of “belonging” that is intrinsic to our understanding and acceptance of who we are, what we do, how we live in relationship.
Many of the 34 paintings are available to purchase.
